Editorial verdict
ClickUp AI—now sold through Brain AI and Everything AI—is an intelligence and automation layer for ClickUp tasks, docs, chat, projects, dashboards, meetings, and connected knowledge. Its strongest value comes from work context: the assistant and agents can answer questions, create content, prioritize work, update fields, automate processes, and generate meeting notes without leaving the project-management system.
The pricing model has two layers. Teams pay for the underlying ClickUp workspace, then add an AI plan for every member in that workspace. Included Super Credits cover some agent and automation use; additional credits are usage-based. This can be powerful at scale, but cost and permissions need careful control.
Best for
- Teams already using ClickUp as their main task and project system.
- Managers who want workspace-grounded answers, prioritization, summaries, and dashboards.
- Operations teams automating structured task, field, and workflow updates.
- Organizations replacing separate meeting-note and AI chat products.
- Enterprises requiring SAML, SCIM, audit logs, governance, data residency, and managed services.
What ClickUp AI does well
Works across operational context
Brain can use tasks, docs, chat, and workspace data instead of relying on a manually assembled prompt. It also exposes Claude, ChatGPT, and Gemini models, letting users select or route work without maintaining several separate interfaces.
Supports assistants and agents
Brain AI includes an unlimited Brain Assistant, @Brain Agent, chat, writing, and enterprise search, plus a monthly Super Credit allowance. Everything AI adds Super Agents, AI Fields, automations, dashboards, assignment and prioritization, image generation, and more generous agent usage.
Combines meetings with execution
Everything AI includes unlimited AI Notetaker under fair-use terms. Because meeting outcomes live near tasks and owners, teams can move from transcript to assigned work faster than with a disconnected recorder.
Offers enterprise controls
ClickUp Enterprise adds custom roles, SAML SSO, SCIM, audit logs, session management, API scale, custom branding, data residency, and optional MSA or HIPAA terms, alongside onboarding and customer success.
Underlying ClickUp pricing
Free Forever: unlimited tasks and free-plan members, 60MB storage, collaborative docs, boards, calendar, one form, basic custom fields, and support.
Unlimited — US$7 per user per month billed yearly, or US$10 monthly: unlimited storage, spaces, folders, forms, Gantt charts, integrations, custom fields, time tracking, goals, portfolios, chat, and guest permissions.
Business — US$12 yearly or US$19 monthly: advanced dashboards, message history, activity and timeline views, webhooks, integration automations, 5,000 monthly automations, workload management, Google SSO, custom exporting, and proofing.
Enterprise — custom: security, governance, provisioning, logs, API and automation scale, data residency, onboarding, and managed services.
Current AI pricing
Free AI access: trial use across chat, tasks, and docs.
Brain AI — US$9 per user per month: unlimited assistant, @Brain Agent, chat and writing; Claude, ChatGPT, and Gemini access; enterprise search; and 1,500 Super Credits per user each month.
Everything AI — US$28 per user per month: the full agentic suite, unlimited ambient answers, AI Notetaker, image generation, AI Fields, automations, dashboards, assignment and prioritization, three-times Super Agent usage, enterprise search, and 5,000 credits per user each month.
Additional Super Credits: US$10 per 10,000 credits, or US$0.001 each. Credits are pooled across the workspace and consumption varies by task complexity.
ClickUp requires the entire workspace to be upgraded, so calculate AI cost for every member—not only daily AI users. Annual workspace plans save up to 30%, and AI plans advertise up to 20% annual savings.
Where ClickUp AI falls short
- AI must be purchased across the workspace, which can make casual members expensive.
- Super Credit consumption varies by complexity and can create variable cost.
- “Unlimited” AI and media features remain subject to fair-use policies.
- Agents can change operational data incorrectly if scopes and approvals are loose.
- Workspace search inherits every error, duplicate, stale task, and permission mistake.
- ClickUp’s broad feature set creates administrative and adoption overhead.
A practical evaluation test
- Select one team with clean tasks, docs, owners, statuses, and permission boundaries.
- Test 20 known workspace questions and verify answers against authoritative records.
- Run Notetaker on consented meetings and compare decisions, owners, and deadlines with human notes.
- Build one narrow agent that updates a non-critical field or drafts—but does not publish—a recurring report.
- Measure credits for successful runs, retries, exceptions, and high-complexity tasks.
- Audit every record change, permission boundary, notification, and rollback path.
- Calculate the annual workspace plus AI cost for all members and compare it with displaced tools and labor.
Security and governance checks
Use least-privilege roles and require approvals for external messages, status changes, due dates, assignments, deletions, customer data, and financial or regulated workflows. Obtain meeting consent. Enterprise buyers should validate data residency, retention, model training, subprocessors, HIPAA or MSA scope, SSO/SCIM lifecycle, audit coverage, API security, and how pooled credits are governed.
Alternatives
Notion AI is more document and knowledge centric. Asana Intelligence fits teams already using Asana. Microsoft 365 Copilot connects to Teams, Outlook, SharePoint, and Office. Atlassian Intelligence serves Jira and Confluence environments. Standalone assistants offer broader flexibility but require more workflow integration.
Final recommendation
Choose Brain AI when workspace search, writing, and routine assistance are the primary needs. Everything AI makes sense only when Notetaker, fields, automations, dashboards, images, and Super Agents replace measurable work. Pilot with a clean teamspace, strict permissions, and credit reporting before upgrading the entire workspace.
